Thanks so much for stopping by! I spent a lot of time baking when I was growing up but I didn’t start teaching myself to cook until I was in my early 20s. Once I was off on my own at college I realized I couldn’t subsist solely on cupcakes and cookies, though I certainly wish I could, so I started experimenting with cooking. Baking is still my passion, but I know I feel best when I’m eating healthy meals so you’ll find recipes for salads and smoothies interspersed with cupcakes and ice cream.
I’ve been a vegetarian for about 10 years but many of my recipes could be easily adapted to include some meat if you’re so inclined. I think one of the marks of a good dish is when the carnivores in my life think it’s a satisfying meal and they don’t miss the meat. I try to find a good balance in my eating habits, and hopefully that will come across in my recipes here too. I mostly cook from scratch using real ingredients, but am certainly not opposed to throwing in a few Oreos here and there.
About Boomer- The Cooking Lab
Boomer was my yellow lab and a faithful camping buddy and cooking companion for almost 10 years. I adopted him when he was about a year and a half old and he moved with me to Washington, Colorado, Montana, Wisconsin, and Indiana as we relocated around the country for college, graduate school, and new jobs. He was always in the kitchen with me, lurking around my feet in hopes that some delicious morsel would drop on the floor. Boom was the best of the best and is the ‘lab’ in ‘Annie’s Cooking Lab’.
