When I decided to start Annie’s Cooking Lab up again, one of the things I wanted to include was a regular feature where I could talk about things besides recipes. These posts will be a random assortment of things: updates on what’s happening my life, products I’m loving, music I’m listening to, interesting links, etc. Please let me know if there is anything in particular that you’d like to hear about!
The name Left of the Dial is a bit of an old-school music reference and also a great song by The Replacements. When college and alternative radio stations were popular they were usually on a lower radio frequency- i.e. left of the dial. Those stations were home to a lot of great bands and they tended to play more obscure and unique music that wasn’t necessarily mainstream.
Listening to: Left of the Dial by the Replacements
- I realized that I haven’t given you all a proper introduction to Creole! After Boomer (the best dog ever) passed away in November I started fostering through a local dog rescue. I’ve had Creole for several months and completely adore her. She’s such a good, silly, cuddly girl. I can’t believe no one has adopted her yet! I’ve never had a dog that loves to snuggle as much as she does. Right now she and I are stretched out on the couch; she has her head on my lap and is sound asleep and snoring loudly. She’s the sweetest!
- Last weekend I went to a Dave Matthews Band concert. It was so, so, so, hot, but we had a great time. There was a heat advisory for the whole day and the heat index was well over 100 degrees when we headed to the venue. Luckily some clouds blew in which helped block the sun. They played almost all of the songs I was hoping to hear including ‘Oh‘ which has always been one of my favorites. ‘Oh’ hasn’t been showing up on many of their setlists so I was surprised and excited when the encore started with it.
- I have a cute little set of three pots for plants in my office. Two of the 3 plants died over the winter and I finally replaced them last month. Within a few weeks one of the new plants was dead too. I try to hard to keep my plants alive and healthy but it feels like I can’t win!
- I received my July Play! by Sephora box last week. I started receiving them in May and always look forward to my box arriving. If you aren’t familiar with this service, it’s a monthly subscription for $10 where you receive a box with five product samples from Sephora. There is usually a good mix of skin and hair care, makeup, and a perfume. So far each box has had one or two new products that I’ve loved in addition to one or two that I’ll probably never use. This month I loved the Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay.
